“Having rolling fields, woodland, and the changing colours and seasons of the countryside on my doorstep whilst growing up has been a huge inspiration for me to paint right from the beginning.
Whether I am out walking or in my garden, there are always new colours and shapes and I love coming back to my studio to create my own window onto that landscape. My aim is that you feel you could step into an Autumn morning or a Spring day straight from the room you’re in.
Texture has always been an important part of my work and after initially using oil paints impasto; I started exploring collage (chine colle) with collagraph print-making, and then brought collage into my paintings. I work with a mix of media now that incorporates acrylic paints, oil pastel, charcoal and collage, taking every piece in a different direction. My textile background and mums love of quilt making led me to use material as part of the collage which creates wonderful textural and colour effects as it soaks up and reflects light in a unique way.
The quiet areas of my paintings are just as important though, allowing your focus to be drawn onto the subject.”
